How To Repair Grout Floor Tiles

Cracked or missing grout can ruin the look of your tile floor and make it more susceptible to water damage. Repairing grout is a relatively easy and inexpensive project that you can do yourself with a few simple tools and materials.

Grout saw or utility knife
Grout float or sponge
Grout
Grout sealer
Bucket of water
Rags

Instructions

1. Remove the old grout.

Use a grout saw or utility knife to score the old grout along the edges of the tiles. Be careful not to damage the tiles themselves. Once the grout is scored, use a grout float or sponge to remove the old grout.

2. Clean the area.

Use a damp cloth to clean the area where the old grout was removed. Make sure to remove all of the dust and debris.

3. Apply the new grout.

Mix the grout according to the manufacturer's instructions. Use a grout float or sponge to apply the grout to the area where the old grout was removed. Be sure to press the grout firmly into the joints between the tiles.

4. Let the grout dry.

Allow the grout to dry for at least 24 hours. Once the grout is dry, use a damp cloth to clean the tiles and remove any excess grout.

5. Seal the grout.

Apply a grout sealer to the grout to help protect it from stains and water damage. Allow the sealer to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Tips

If the grout is badly cracked or missing, you may need to replace the entire grout joint.
Use a grout that is the same color as the original grout.
Be sure to clean the area thoroughly before applying the new grout.
Allow the grout to dry completely before sealing it.
